FAQ about Eyewear Digitization

How are physical glasses turned into 3D frames, depending on the level of quality?

Fittingbox can digitize glasses in 3 different levels of quality.

Quality corresponds to the level of realism of the 3D asset produced. Here are the production mode of each quality:

  • BASIC: 2 pictures of the pair of glasses are downloaded on our dedicated online platform and the digitization process is powered by Artificial Intelligence thanks to algorithms specifically developed. 

  • STANDARD: physical frames are shipped to a Fittingbox Studio (main ones in Miami - USA and Toulouse - France). Fittingbox’s patented StudioBox shoots the glasses and the 3D modeling is then realized thanks to Fittingbox patented technology. 

  • PREMIUM: physical frames are shipped to a Fittingbox Studio (main ones in Miami - USA and Toulouse - France). Fittingbox’s patented StudioBox shoots the glasses and our StudioLab experts take care of the 3D modeling with bespoke adjustments and luxury renderings.

3D Digitization of glasses: how long does it take and how much that costs?

For Basic Digitization, the 3D version of the frame is available within minutes. Once the 2 pictures are downloaded it actually take less 1 minute to get the frame ready.

For Standard or Premium Digitization, it usually requires 3 weeks after reception of the frames to create their digital twins. We provide a scalable production of 4.000 frames per month in average.

Price of digitization can vary from €17 to €250 per frame depending on the level of quality you wish to have.

How close to reality is the 3D version of a frame?

Our technology is especially designed to produce a digital copy of a frame that is as close to reality as possible. With more than 50% of Fittingbox employees in R&D and various patents, we continuously provide cutting-edge technology.

For example, we've just released a major improvements of the 3D rendering of both eyeglasses and sunglasses with a focus on crystal frames as well as the rendering of different materials on a same frame and translucent acetate renderings.

We also provide a premium enhanced quality of rendering, as we have a dedicated team of designers that can work on highlighting a special frame.

Can I use the digital frames for all purposes? Are they available in gltf or glb format?

The 3D frames we created can be used in many different ways! Obviously, you can use it with Fittingbox's virtual try-on solution, but you can use it with other rendering engines.

On demand, we can export the 3D asset in a gltf or glb format following your needs.

You can also choose to showcase your collections by creating eyewear filters for social media, and good news: we can make our 3D frame compatible to use in a filter!
