A pioneer in virtual eyewear try-on since 2006 and based in Labège, near Toulouse, Fittingbox brought together its teams and key partners on June 24 and 25, 2026, to celebrate two decades of innovation, growth and commitment to the optical industry.
TOULOUSE, FRANCE – Monday 29th June, 2026 – Fittingbox, a global player in virtual eyewear try-on and 3D frame digitization, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, the company brought together its employees and key partners at its new premises in Data Valley, in Labège, near Toulouse. The celebration marks a symbolic milestone in Fittingbox’s history: twenty years of technological innovation, international development and commitment to transforming the way consumers choose and purchase eyewear.
On June 24 at midday, Fittingbox held the official opening of its brand-new headquarters at Data Valley, a flagship innovation hub in the Toulouse metropolitan area initiated by the Occitanie Region. This new location opens a fresh chapter for the company while remaining true to its roots: since its creation, Fittingbox has always grown in Labège. After eight moves over twenty years within the same area, the company is reaffirming its attachment to the Toulouse digital ecosystem, from which it continues to expand internationally. Today, more than 90% of its revenue is generated outside France, illustrating Fittingbox’s ability to bring French technology from Occitanie to the global optical market.
Founded in 2006 by Benjamin Hakoun and Ariel Choukroun, Fittingbox was one of the first companies to envision virtual eyewear try-on, at a time when built-in webcams were still uncommon and smartphones had not yet become part of everyday life. From the outset, the company has pursued the same ambition: to make buying eyewear simpler, more accessible and more reliable, by enabling glasses wearers to make their choices with confidence.
“When we started in 2006, virtual eyewear try-on was almost a technological intuition: consumer habits, devices and market expectations were not yet in place. Twenty years later, that vision has become a reality used at scale by the optical industry. What makes us particularly proud is that we have built this journey while staying true to the same course: developing useful, reliable technologies designed to simplify the experience for both glasses wearers and professionals,” said Ariel Choukroun, CTO and co-founder of Fittingbox.
Twenty years later, Fittingbox is built on strong technological DNA and an international presence. The company now has more than 160 employees worldwide, with offices in France, the United States and Bulgaria. Its business has grown significantly: the number of virtual try-on sessions per year has skyrocketed from just 10 million in 2016 to an estimated 370 million in 2026, representing nearly 1 million try-ons every day worldwide. Its annual production of 3D digitized frames has also grown strongly, reaching 88,000 pairs today, compared with fewer than 10,000 ten years ago.
Benjamin Hakoun, CEO and co-founder of Fittingbox, added: “These 20 years are both a moment of celebration and a new starting point. Fittingbox has grown with a strong conviction: technology should make buying eyewear simpler, more accessible and more reassuring. Our move to Data Valley opens a new chapter for our teams, our clients and our partners. From Toulouse, we aim to continue bringing French innovation to a global market.”
This growth reflects the increasing adoption of Fittingbox solutions by opticians, brands, distributors and e-commerce players around the world. Today, the company supports major players in optics, including retailers like Afflelou and Atol in France, Fielmann in Germany, UK major retailer Specsavers, Zenni in the USA, luxury brands from Kering to LVMH, as well as frame manufacturers like Marchon and lens manufacturers such as Zeiss and Hoya.
For twenty years, Fittingbox has developed solutions designed to meet real market needs: improving the shopping experience, reducing uncertainty at the point of choice, building confidence and supporting the digital transformation of optical professionals. This commitment has resulted in a portfolio of 59 international patents and several breakthrough innovations, including Frame Removal, a world first launched in 2022 at CES Las Vegas, which allows glasses wearers to virtually try on new frames without removing their prescription eyewear.
This ability to anticipate the sector’s needs reflects Fittingbox’s culture of innovation, driven by its long-standing values: Make Good & Improve, Commitment, Trust and Feel Good.
Twenty years after paving the way for eyewear virtual try-on, Fittingbox is entering a new phase in its history. The company intends to continue developing at the intersection of optics, 3D, artificial intelligence, augmented reality and diminished reality, while progressively expanding the scope of its technologies.
With Fittingbox Footwear, its new business unit dedicated to shoes, the company is applying its expertise in product digitization and visualization to a new market. This evolution reflects a clear ambition: to continue developing useful, immersive and user-focused solutions capable of supporting the digital transformation of retail well beyond the optical industry.
Based in France — Toulouse — as well as in Miami, United States, and Bulgaria, Fittingbox has established itself as the global leader in virtual try-on and 3D digitization for eyewear. A pioneer in augmented reality for eyewear and 3D frame digitization, Fittingbox develops cutting-edge digital solutions based on Artificial Intelligence, with proprietary algorithms specialty developed for eyewear particularities. Operating behind the scenes for some of the world’s largest optical and luxury groups, Fittingbox was the first company to launch the “virtual mirror,” enabling consumers to try on glasses in real time via a computer or mobile device using augmented reality. The company generates nearly 1 million virtual try-ons every day in the world and digitizes more than 5,000 frames per month.
